books

My research topic is how child obesity and video games are directly related and how the more popular the video games get the rate of child obesity also increase. One book that i found extremely helpful was one of the books that was given to us in class, Overcoming Obesity in Childhood and Adolescence. Before i start researching my topic i think it is important to get some background information to learn more about child obesity and the severity of the issue in the United States, and i think this book would give me the information i need in order to start the research process. Another book that i found that was help was a book called Child Obesity. This book is a parents guide to learn how to control their child by controlling their eating habits and their regular exercise. It also points out that watching tv and playing video games is not a way to control your child weight, which is helpful for me and my topic.

  1. Finding background information on your reseach topic is very important in completing good quality research. It will be helpful to build up to the information that you need to answer your overall question. Just remember to not let the background information distract you from answering your actual question.

    1. Good comments! Background information is important -- that's why I assigned the presearch worksheet a couple of weeks ago, but I think I may have thrown that at you all too quickly. Gathering more background information helps you refine your research question -- you need some general knowledge about the topic to be able to know what issues are interesting to focus on and how detailed your question should be!

  2. So would you say that one is better than the other, based on our evaluation criteria? Or just that they're good for different parts of your research?

  3. There good for different parts of my research. The first book i mentioned would help with background information and maybe statistics. The second book will actually help with my topic about obesity and video games.
