Interview
For my research interview I interviewed Carly Welch. She is a Junior here at West Georgia and she is a marketing major. She says she had done many research papers and they key to a successful research paper is having excellent quotes from reliable sources. She said she mainly used the library catalog and Google scholar. She said her favorite research topic she had done was "Cyber Crimes." She told me with good sites and hard work comes success. She also said she found that making an outline helped her out a lot and she recommend I try to do this for my research papers in the future. She said the most important thing is to chose a important topic and something there is a good bit of information on and also something you may be interested in. The most surprising thing she told me was that the outline helped are a lot. I never knew an outline was so useful!

What types of sources did she have to use? How did she determine which sources were reliable?
ReplyDeleteGoogle scholar can be helpful for finding stuff, especially if you don't know which of the 100s of library databases will be best for your topic. In the next few weeks, we'll explore some of the databases we offer here -- they have the same benefits as Google scholar, but have the added bonus that the library pays for subscriptions so you can get full text of the articles online for free!
i also feel that creating an outline can be very helpful! it's something simple that you can write down in a piece of scarp paper that doesn't take up a lot of time!
ReplyDeleteCreating an outline is the best way to come up with information efficiently. Personally I have never used Google scholar to do research but now I may give it a go.
ReplyDeleteSee for me Creating an outline will just keep me confined to a certain skeleton, and that is the purpose of an outline, I try and try to use an outline, but thy never seem to work right for me, but I do like the organizational concept of an outline though.
ReplyDeleteYea good quotes from reliable sources always make your paper really good and detailed. Also making outline does help a lot. Because when I tried to write papers without outlines things are always unorganized and it is hard to put a good paper together. When I actually do an outline my paper gets a really high grade.
ReplyDeleteShe said she was suppose to use scholarly sources. The criteria for a scholarly source are journals or articles written not for the public but for professionals, the author is listed, and other things that show the information is credible.
ReplyDeletegreat interview! I never knew outlines were so useful, but good for her! I've never heard of google scholar but from your information it seems to come in handy! Having a good source would make a paper successful, you dont want your assignment too broad or not anything to elaborate at all on.
ReplyDeleteI liked you who you interviewed because I know her, we use to lifeguard for the same company, but anyways I loved your interview. Carly gave some good advice. I will defiantly start making an outline now, since it seemed to help her out a lot. Your interview was really helpful and informative.
ReplyDeleteThe advice given to you from the interview is very helpful. When researching I would have never thought to use an outline. It probably helps in keeping the information organized. An outline would also help when citing a paper. I will definately have to try this idea in the future.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me as if research papers are a huge aspect of college and being successful. Knowing where to find information, what information is needed and how to present the information is essential.
